VELVET GLOVE SCORES AN OUTSTANDING 96 POINTS

IN WINE ADVOCATE REVIEW

The results are in from Wine Advocate’s review of our 2017 vintage wines, and we’re pleased to announce our flagship Velvet Glove Shiraz scored an incredible 96 points! The Wine Advocate has been one of the world’s most trusted authorities in wine for over 30 years, and this is a truly fantastic result.

Here’s what Wine Advocate’s Australian wine expert, Joe Czerwinski had to say:

“The 2017 Velvet Glove Shiraz is reminiscent of a lush, chocolate-covered raspberry, a mouth-filling one imbued with a uniquely plush, supple texture and a lingering finish. There are hints of mint, pepper and anise to bring complexity and a slight savory-herbal edge, but much of this wine's considerable charm is in the way it feels in the mouth—caressing, expansive and complete. Drink Date: 2019 - 2030” – JC

There is more good news... our 2017 Carnival of Love scored a fantastic 94 points, Enchanted Path 93 points, Blue Eyed Boy 92 points, Gigglepot 91 points and our Miss Molly also scored 90 points.

It was a terrific vintage for us at Mollydooker Wines, the first solo vintage from our helmswoman Sarah Marquis, and the results have spoken for themselves.

Drink Date: 2019 - 2030" - JC " Say what you will about the Mollydooker wine style or marketing, there's no denying that Sarah Marquis is able to build wonderful texture into her wines. The 2017 Carnival of Love Shiraz frames powerful dark fruit aromas with strong cedar overtones, but the highlight is the high-end Mollydooker texture-somewhere between heavy cream, plush velvet and Asia's finest silk. As in the Blue Eyed Boy, red raspberry notes emerge on the finish, bringing a sense of freshness and balance to this rich, flavorsome wine. Drink Date: 2019 - 2030" - JC " A blend of 72% Shiraz and 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2017 Enchanted Path weighs in at a labeled 16.5% alcohol, yet (when served at the proper temperature) it doesn't come across as being overripe or hot. It's unabashedly full-bodied, with notes of blackberry, blueberry and cassis, yet it retains a savory edge, rich, velvety tannins and a long, intense finish. Drink Date: 2019 - 2025" - JC

" The full-bodied 2017 Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz ratchets up the intensity. It's a dark-fruited, super ripe, chocolaty mass that's given form on the palate by velvety tannins. A hint of raspberries is overpowered by charred oak and cola notes, but it does serve to lighten the overall impression, emerging on the finish to provide mouth-watering length. Drink Date: 2019 - 2024" - JC " The full-bodied 2017 Gigglepot Cabernet Sauvignon is the winery's top Cabernet. It's supple and silky on the palate, marked by notes of cedar and mocha, cassis and mint. It's a big mouthful of ripe, dark flavors, wrapped in a plush coating of super-soft tannins that conceal the wine's considerable alcohol. Drink Date: 2019 - 2025 " - JC " Dense and chocolaty, with blueberry overtones, the 2017 Miss Molly Sparkling Shiraz stays true to the house style of Mollydooker, delivering plenty of ripe fruit, a smooth, supple texture and a lasting finish. Just know what to expect going in—this is not a light, refreshing quaffer but an intense, flavorful red wine that happens to have some bubbles. Drink Date: 2019 - 2023 " - JC
